Seize the Awkard Caleb Williams Commercial

Caleb Williams partnered with the “Seize the Awkward” campaign to encourage young people to check in with their peers and have open conversations about mental health.

The Star USC quarterback fronts a student-produced PSA, developed in collaboration with the Ad Council, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, The Jed Foundation, Caleb Cares Foundation, and the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, and he talks mental health, sharing his own feelings.

“When the stadium lights are dimmed, when the camera stops flashing, when the pads are off, the pressure sinks in and it’s just me. Just me and a world of expectation. Nobody can carry that alone. But pressure doesn’t have to be carried alone,” Williams says, raising the question “What if we came together as a team?”. He then encourages viewers to “embrace talking openly about our mental health” and “imagine what we could do”.

The ad, set to the tune of “Chef Brian” by LATASHÁ, also encourages viewers to reach out, check in and seize the awkward.

Williams declared that he hopes everyone sees “the importance of supporting your friends and what a huge difference that can make in someone’s life.”
