One Mississipi returns to Amazon Prime with its second season. The critically acclaimed series, created by Tig Notaro and Diablo Cody, which is a semi-autobiographical dark comedy inspired by comedian Tig Notaro’s life, follows Tig (who’s playing a version of herself) as she returns to her hometown in Mississippi after the sudden death of her mother. While struggling with this loss, she also must deal with her health issues and dysfunctional family, Remy (Noah Harpster), her brother, and Bill (John Rotham), her 65-year-old stepfather.
According to the official trailer released by Amazon Prime, the upcoming season is about “moving forward in life, new beginnings, and finding love”. As Tig, Remy, and Bill begin the next phases of their lives, they will need to learn how to function as a family and adapt to living together in Mississippi.
The trailer features Tig saying she loves family to someone who called during her radio show, and that she likes it there, in her hometown. This seems to be due to local radio producer Kate (played by Notaro’s wife, Stephanie Allynne), with whom Tig, who has resumed her radio career in Biloxi, has a relationship with her.
The song used in the trailer is “Mississippi Song” by American folk band Rising Appalachia, from their 2012 album,”Filthy Dirty South”.
The new season will be released by the streaming service on September 8.
