Lay’s has enlisted Keegan-Michael Key and Carrie-Anne Moss to star as Morpheus and Trinity in a playful new commercial promoting the brand’s diverse range of flavors.
The Matrix-inspired ad begins on a stormy night, with Morpheus approaching an unsuspecting man named Neal (not Neo) and telling him that he has a choice to make. He then presents two Lay’s flavors – Classic and the new Well Dressed flavor. Inviting him to see “how deep the flavor rabbit hole goes,” Morpheus quickly expands the selection, revealing more options, like Barbecue, Chile Limón, and Wavy.
The scene shifts to a diner, where the man is enjoying his lunch, until another dramatic thunderclap signals Morpheus’s arrival once again. This time, he insists on showcasing even more varieties, like Sour Cream & Onion. No matter where the man goes, Morpheus keeps appearing with Lay’s bags in hand, interrupting his daily routine in the most unexpected moments and places.
Eventually, Trinity, played by Carrie-Anne Moss, joins in, showing up at the man’s house to assist her determined counterpart. When Morpheus struggles to remember where they left off, Trinity helpfully reminds him: “Dill Pickle.”
The commercial wraps up with the voiceover declaring, “From Lay’s Classic to Lay’s All Dressed, open a world of flavor.” As the scene fades out, Trinity turns to Neo, who’s crunching on Lay’s Well Dressed at the man’s kitchen table, and asks, “Are you sure he is the one?”, referring to their host.
