SoFi has released a new commercial aimed at changing people’s misconceptions about the face of finance.
The spot informs that the financial company asked AI to generate images of someone who is good with money, someone good at earning money, and someone good at investing and got thousands of images of men wearing eyeglasses and suits, surrounded by dollar bills. The following onscreen lines also inform that out of thousands of images generated, less than 2% were of women, and point out that this is not the real picture because women’s investment portfolios outperform men’s, women have less credit card debt than men, single women own more homes than single men, more wives outearn their husbands than ever before, and 90% of women manage household financial decisions.
The ad also points out that AI can’t unlearn bias until we do and urges viewers to join SoFi in changing the face of finance.
“We’re empowering millions of women to achieve their financial ambitions” a final onscreen line reads at the end of the commercial.
The songs playing in the background are La traviata: “Libiamo nei lieti calici” by Giuseppe Verdi and “Players” by Coi Leray.
