Progressive has teamed up with Reginald VelJohnson for a new ad campaign, titled “TV Dad”.
The actor stars in a series of commercials created like sitcom episodes in which he plays the “TV Dad”, who has all the answers and advises people to switch to Progressive in order to save hundreds of dollars.
One of the spots represents the “Sitcom Intro” and features a montage of scenes in which VelJohnson, known for his role as Carl Winslow, the patriarch on “Family Matters”, takes centre stage.
The theme song has the following lyrics:
“He’s kind and he’s funny
And he’s also mustochioed
He solves all your problems by the end of every episode
TV Dad, everyone loves TV Dad, TV Dad,
Unlike your real dad, he never hollers,
And he tells you how Progressive can save you lots of dollars.
TV Dad.”
“The classic sitcom connected us with our families and gave us the opportunity to relate to others. The sitcom nostalgia reminds us of cherished moments of the past, and memories of a warmth and purity that so many of us honor and respect today. For nine years, Reginald VelJohnson captured viewer’s attention with funny moments and delivered advice on many life lessons,” said Progressive’s Chief Marketing Officer, Remi Kent. “Now with TV Dad, we are leaning into a new, always knowing character to deliver a refreshed message on savings to both an audience of millennials who grew up with this classic figure on their TV screens, as well as the two billion viewers who discovered and rediscovered beloved sitcoms on their favorite streaming channels over the last few years.”
