McDonald’s UK has enlisted TV presenter Maya Jama as the face of its new McCrispy chicken burger, added as a permanent item to the menus last month.
Jama stars in a dedicated advert for the McCrispy, showing up in various settings, including diners, an office lunch, a drive-by dinner, and top-deck sandwich sharing to pass commentary. Comedian Leigh Francis, rapper Michael Dapaah and girl-boss gamer Elz the Witch also make appearances in the 30-second spot. While Francis is shown munching on a McDonald’s while watching himself on the TV, Dapaah and Elz are shown taking a break from singing and gaming to treat themselves to a McCrispy.
The song used in the ad is the 2021 single “Edamame” by Canadian rapper bbno$ featuring Indonesian rapper Rich Brian. Included on his “eat ya veggies” album, the track is available for purchase on Amazon for $1.29.
Made with 100% chicken breast fillet, which has been marinated in black pepper and cayenne, the McCrispy is topped with the brand’s classic mayonnaise, cracked black pepper, and a savory roasted chicken flavor, then served in a four-inch artisan glazed bun, that has a “sweet nutty toasted flavor”.
The burger is available across McDonald’s restaurants for £6.49 as part of an Extra-Value meal.
“McCrispy is our most exciting chicken launch in years, with chicken-loving celebrities giving our new crispier, crunchier chicken burger their seal of approval,” Steve Howells, marketing director at McDonald’s UK & Ireland, said in a press release.
McDonald’s has also announced other additions to its menus, such as mini potato waffles, Nacho Cheese wedges, and Twirl McFlurry.
