The the time-travelling Scottish drama Outlander returns this fall with its third season. Amazon Prime Studios, that streams the series in the UK, has released the official trailer for the upcoming season, revealing that Claire and Jamie, separated by centuries and continents, must find their way back to each other.

Season three will be based on the Voyager, the third book in the hit series written by Diana Gabaldon, that follows time-travelling nurse Claire Randall, played by Caitriona Balfe, as she returns to the 18th century to find Highland warrior Jamie Fraser, played by Sam Heughan. At the end of season 2, Claire had just found out that Jamie had managed to survive the bloody Battle of Culloden. The upcoming season picks up right after Claire travels through the stones to return to her life in 1948. Now pregnant with Jamie’s child, she deals with the effect her sudden reappearance had on her marriage with Frank, her first husband, played by Tobias Menzies. On the other hand, Jamie suffers suffers from the aftermath of his doomed last stand at the historic battle of Culloden, as well as the loss of Claire. Over the course of time, they try to make new lives apart from one another, but the memory of their lost love haunts them.

“Twenty years ago I shut the door on the past and it was the hardest thing I’ve done. I can’t get through that again.” – says Claire in one of the scenes revealed in the trailer.

The upcoming season, consisting of 13 episodes, is set to premiere on September 11.
