This holiday season, you’re invited to discover the story of the first Christmas from an entirely new perspective in the upcoming animated film The Star.
From Sony Animation, the studio that brought Miracles from Heaven and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, the film follows a small but brave donkey named Bo that breaks free from the village mill he’s been living and and embarks on a journey throughout which he teams up with Ruth, a loveable sheep who has lost her flock and Dave, a dove with lofty aspirations. The three friends follow the Star, along with three camels and some stable animals, and become the unsung heroes of the first Christmas.
Based on an original pitch by Tom Sheridan, The Star – initially entitled The Lamb – is written by Carlos Kotkin and Simon Moore, directed by Timothy Reckart and stars the voices of Steven Yeun as Bo the donkey, Kelly Clarkson, Keegan-Michael Key, Aidy Bryant, Anthony Anderson, Kristin Chenoweth, Gabriel Iglesias, Delilah, Gina Rodriguez, Oprah Winfrey, Zachary Levy, Tracy Morgan, and others.
“For centuries, one story has touched the lives of people across the world.” – says the voiceover at the beginning of the teaser trailer, which features Bo the donkey and some of his animal friends, such as Dave the dove, who tries to distract two scary dogs for Bo in a very original way, strutting and dancing in front of them.
The song playing in the background is the new single “The Star” by Mariah Carey, who co-wrote it.
The film is set to be released in the US theaters on November 10.
