“The American people don’t know what’s best for them… I do. I know exactly what they need.” – this is Frank Underwood’s statement at the beginning of the trailer for the new season of House of Cards.
The trailer continues with Underwood’s statements, made during a discussion with his wife, Claire: “They’re like little children. We have to hold their sticky fingers and wipe their filthy mouth. Teach them right from wrong.
Tell them what to think and how to feel. What to want. They even need help writing their wildest dreams, crafting their worst fears. Lucky for them, they have me. They have you.”, says Underwood, who aims to be the US president for the next twenty years, from 2016 to 2036. “One nation. Underwood” – are his final words in the trailer, which reveals that there will be street protests against Underwood, that Thomas Yates (the writer with whom Claire had an affair) returns, that Underwood is ahead of Republican nominee for president Conway (Joel Kinnaman), that Tom Hammerschmidt (Boris McGiver), the former editor of The Washington Herald and former boss of Lucas Goodwin,
is called to provide information during the police’s investigation on a girl’s death.
Underwood is shown lying on the floor, seemingly unconscious, and a woman wearing high heels leaving the room, which raises lots of questions, obviously: Is the woman Claire? LeAnn Harvey (Neve Campbell), the Texas-based political consultant hired by Claire to help her with her campaign, is shown tied up to a bed and another mysterious woman is shown with blood on her face, sitting on a toilet.
The hit political drama series returns with its fifth season this May, all new episodes being set for release on Netflix, on May 30.
