JEEP Groundhog Day Safety First Commercial - Feat. Bill Murray

JEEP has released a new ad featuring Bill Murray. The actor plays his character from the iconic 1993 movie Groundhog Day, in which he relives the same day over and over again.

The spot, which carries the #StayOffTheRoad hashtag, features him waking up at 7AM and getting out of the bed-and-breakfast in which he’s staying for Groundhog Day. However, he soon turns around to go back inside because he puts safety first.

“We know it’s tempting but safety first. Please stay home” onscreen lines read at the end of the commercial, which is scored by the iconic “I Got You Babe” by Sonny & Cher.

The automaker, which tapped Murray for a Groundhog Day-themed commercial to run during this year’s Super Bowl, announced there would also be other spots featuring the actor, to be released over the next few weeks.

“Not only did Bill accept the idea of doing it, but we had the most creatively stimulating of times doing it.

Everybody is stuck at home and we have more time… He said we should absolutely do it.” Olivier Francois, FCA’s chief marketing officer, said in a press statement referring to the initiative of using the Goundhog Day-themed ad in the coronavirus pandemic-related campaign, which aims to urge people to stay off the road.
