Upstart Crow is an upcoming television series created as part of the BBC Shakespeare Festival 2016, to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the death of the great writer.
The six-part comedy sitcom, scheduled to premiere on May 9, at 10pm on BBC Two, focuses on Shakespeare’s life before he became famous, covering surprising stories related to both his family and profession. His wife, Anne, his servant, his friends Kate and Marlowe, his theatrical troupe and his rival Robert Green are also featured.
The one who inhabits Shakespeare’s character is the former Peep Show star David Mitchell (41). The filming took place at London’s South Bank studios, just along the river from the original Globe theatre.
