BMW has released its full Super Bowl commercial, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as Zeus.
The spot features the ancient Greek god of lightening living in Palm Spring with his wife, Hera (played by Salma Hayek). Underwhelmed by all earthly electric things, Zeus becomes a shell of his former self. However, when Hera brings over the all-electric BMW iX to pick him up, he regains his spark, including a gold plated armor, and drives through the city confident and delighted by the experience, all while singing, together with Hera, Eddy Grant’s 1983 hit single Electric Avenue.
The commercial introduces the iX M60 as the Ultimate Electric Driving Machine. The BMW iX features dual high-performance electric motors delivering 610 horsepower and up to 811 lb.-ft. of torque. The vehicle, which reaches 0–60 mph in 3.6 seconds with Launch Control, also comes equipped with xDrive – intelligent all-wheel drive with a rear bias for sporty driving – and achieves an estimated range of up to 280 miles.
A teaser released earlier this month by the automotive brand featured Zeus in a coffee shop, having his name mispronounced several times by a barista. This is not the first time Schwarzenegger stars in a Big Game commercial.
In 2014, he appeared in Bud Light’s ad and in 2017 in one for the Mobile Strike game.
The commercial will air during the Super Bowl, on February 13.
