Netflix has released the first trailer for its upcoming neo-noir thriller series What/If, starring Renée Zellweger, announcing the premiere date.
According to the official synopsis, the show, created by Mike Kelley, revolves around “a pair of cash-strapped newlyweds who accept a lucrative but morally dubious offer from a mysterious female benefactor”. The cast also includes Jane Levy, Blake Jenner, Keith Powers, Samantha Marie Ware, Juan Castano, Dave Annable, Saamer Usmani, Daniella Pineda, John Clarence Stewart, and Louis Herthum.
The trailer features Zellweger’s character asking in voiceover “What if I made you an offer too extraordinary to refuse? for anything and anyone. To be yours for the taking. The players are all arranged. What would you risk for a chance to have it all?” On screen images show her character walking across a room, in a mansion, where a party is taking place. Various guests take the centre stage for a moment, as well. A young couple played by Keith Powers and Samantha Marie Ware are seen fighting and looking at Dave Annable’s character as he shows up at the party, a man is seen placing a magnifying glass into the pocket of another man, who’s apparently in a same-sex relationship, Blake Jenner’s character, rejected by a young woman who gets a phone call from a guy named Avery, is seen approaching another one, who’s apparently a barista at the event.
The song used in the trailer is the 2018 single “Dangerous Game” by Klergy Feat. Beginners.
What/If launches on the streaming service next month, on May 24.
