Mazda Australia announced that the unboxing of the next extraordinary moment in Mazda history begins January 25, 2023, in a new commercial.
The spot features actor and martial arts expert Hiroyuki Sanada walking through a garage with old Mazda models and stating that “this is Mazda’s past”. He then enters a different room, where several black boxes are piled on each other. “From these boxes, we’re going to build Mazda’s future,” he says.
The ad announces the arrival of the brand’s 2024 CX-90 flagship SUV, which will also be available in Artisan Red, a new color that Mazda is reserving for vehicles in the automaker’s Large Product Group.
Earlier this month, Sanada and celebrity mechanic Ant Anstead were invited to check out the SUV and learn about many of the motivations behind its design.
The 2024 CX-90 comes a turbocharged 3.3-liter version of the inline-6 rated at 340 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, and will also offer a plug-in hybrid powertrain, though Mazda has yet to detail the system. A new feature is Mazda’s Kinematic Posture Control (KPC) system, which intelligently applies brake force to limit body roll through corners as well as improve grip.
Sales for the new SUV are expected to start in the spring.
