President’s Choice shows, through a touching animated ad, how a traveler’s heart takes flight when strangers invite him to eat together.
The spot, part of a campaign including stories from Canadian film makers aimed at capturing the essence of how a shared meal can help us reconnect, no matter where we are, is set in an airport and features a man whose flight has been delayed because of the storm. It’s late at night and, while other travelers in the lounging area are trying to get some sleep, he’s talking to his wife. Nostalgia strikes as he watches the photo of his wife and daughter, who miss him and are sad they can’t be together for the Thanksgiving. When his attempt to grab a snack from a vending machine fails, he becomes even more upset, but things take an unexpected turn when a little girl shows up. She invites him to join her family and other travelers for a snack and his mood changes instantly.
The soundtrack music is the 2018 single “Light Up the Dark” by folk/blues singer-songwriter from Illinois Stewart Arp.
Other short films in the series feature The Boustany Family, which is a film focused on the bond that food can create between people – whether it’s with family, friends or neighbors, Borea Super Club, a film inspired by a Syrian who turned his love for food and the wish to create a place for people to get together and eat together into a business, his own business, Lovers, a film featuring several couples talking about the memories food has helped them to create and how it changed them, Family Match, about immigrant families who are welcome to the community by being matched with local families for a holiday dinner, and others.
