The Prime Video film adaptation of The Love Hypothesis follows Olive (played by Lili Reinhart), a brilliant and driven Ph.D. candidate navigating the pressures of academia, and Adam (Tom Bateman), an intimidating and formidable professor whose reputation precedes him, as the two find themselves unexpectedly entering into a fake relationship, one that gradually and unexpectedly begins to turn genuinely real.
The story is set in motion by a single spontaneous moment, in which Olive, acting on impulse, kisses the department’s notoriously strict and brooding professor, Dr. Adam Carlsen, an act that sets off a chain of events neither of them could have anticipated.
What begins as nothing more than a hastily improvised cover story soon evolves into a carefully arranged, mutually beneficial fake-dating agreement, one governed by a strict set of rules and firmly established boundaries meant to keep both parties emotionally protected. Yet, as the two continue to keep up appearances for everyone around them, the once-clear line between performance and genuine, undeniable chemistry gradually begins to blur. Ultimately, Olive finds herself forced to confront and test her own carefully constructed hypothesis: that real love, however uncertain and risky, may well be worth the leap.
The Love Hypothesis is set to premiere on September 23, exclusively on Prime Video.
