Sony Pictures has released the official trailer for the upcoming superhero movie “Kraven the Hunter”.
Kraven the Hunter is a fictional character and one of the prominent villains in the Marvel Comics universe, primarily known as an adversary of Spider-Man. Sergei Kravinoff, also known as Kraven the Hunter, is a Russian aristocrat and big-game hunter who becomes obsessed with capturing Spider-Man, viewing him as the ultimate prey. Unlike many other villains, Kraven doesn’t seek wealth or power but rather aims to prove his superiority as a hunter.
The film will delve into Kraven’s origins, tracing his evolution into a formidable hunter. It will likely explore the complexities of his family relationships and the driving forces behind his transformation into the character familiar from the comics. Rather than portraying Kraven as a straightforward villain, the movie may present a more nuanced and sympathetic perspective on his character.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as Kraven, a man driven by his tumultuous relationship with his ruthless father, Nikolai Kravinoff (played by Russell Crowe). This strained bond sets him on a relentless quest for vengeance, propelling him to become not only the world’s greatest hunter but also one of its most feared figures.
“My son, we are hunters. The greatest the world has ever known.” Nikolai Kravinoff is heard saying in the trailer.
Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola and Christopher Abbott also star in the movie.
The song playing in the trailer is “The Man Comes Around” by American singer-songwriter Johnny Cash, released as the title track and one of the original compositions on his 2002 album American IV: The Man Comes Around. The song is one of Cash’s last major works before his death in 2003.
The song is filled with references to the Bible, particularly from the Book of Revelation. It describes the return of Jesus Christ (referred to as “the man”) during the apocalypse and the final judgment of humanity.
Directed by J.C. Chandor, Kraven the Hunter is slated for release in the United States on December 13.
