Netflix’s “The Decameron” is an upcoming series inspired by Giovanni Boccaccio’s 14th-century literary work, “The Decameron.” The original “Decameron” is a collection of 100 tales told by a group of young people sheltering in a secluded villa outside Florence to escape the Black Death. The stories cover various themes, including love, wit, and the human condition, often with a humorous tone.

The medieval black comedy features Jessica Plummer as Filomena, a spoiled noblewoman, Tony Hale as Sirisco, the villa’s steward, Saoirse-Monica Jackson as Misia, a devoted servant, Zosia Mamet as Pampinea, an aspiring lady of the villa, Amar Chadha-Patel as Dioneo, a confident physician, Leila Farzad as Stratilia, a wise and steady presence at the villa, Lou Gala as Neifile, Karan Gill as Panfilo, Tanya Reynolds as Licisca and Douggie McMeekin as Tindaro.

The series is scheduled to be released on July 25.

The trailer is set to the tune of “Blue Monday”, a song by the English rock band New Order, released on March 7, 1983.

New Order was formed by the remaining members of Joy Division after the death of their lead singer, Ian Curtis. The band members include Bernard Sumner (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Peter Hook (bass), Stephen Morris (drums), and Gillian Gilbert (keyboards, guitar).
