McDonald’s Canada has unveiled its plans for McHappy Day on May 8, where every menu item purchased will contribute to supporting families with sick children through Ronald McDonald House Charities and local children’s charities across Canada. To promote this initiative, the fast-food chain is launching a new 30-second advertisement.
The ad features a diverse array of McDonald’s customers inside a restaurant, showcasing a mother ordering on a touchscreen before heading to the cash register, teenagers capturing selfies, elders sharing laughter, and individuals embracing each other warmly. A young blonde girl wearing glasses inserts a coin into a McHappy Day money box with a smile, understanding that her contribution will aid children in need. Set to the iconic tune “What a Difference A Day Made” by Dinah Washington, the spot captures the spirit of generosity and community.
This year holds particular significance as it marks the 30th McHappy Day event in Canada. Festivities commenced with the release of an exclusive Peace Collective merchandise line featuring beloved McDonaldland characters. The retro-styled collection includes tees, sweatshirts, hoodies, fanny packs, ball caps, and more, available both in-store at Peace Collective Toronto locations and online.
On McHappy Day itself, a portion of proceeds from all food and beverage purchases throughout the day will go towards supporting families with sick children nationwide. Funds raised directly benefit families staying at Ronald McDonald Houses, providing essential assistance such as accommodations, meals, and mental health and wellness support while their child undergoes medical treatment.
Last year, McHappy Day successfully raised over $7.5 million in support of Ronald McDonald House Charities and local children’s charities, highlighting the immense impact of this annual initiative.
