Heineken 0.0 Max Verstappen Driving His Friends Home Commercial

Heineken continues to promote safe driving in a new commercial for its zero-alcohol variant.

Titled “The Best Driver”, the spot is based on statistic showing that over 40% of people have accepted a ride from people who have been drinking. This percentage is due to the fact that many people choose designated drivers based on arbitrary reasons: the one with more experience, the one who enjoys driving the most or the one who volunteers. As a result, many individuals choose a designated driver who ends up drinking. With the help of Max Verstappen, Double F1 World Champion, the beer brand aims to empower consumers to make the right choice: the only designated driver that should be chosen is the one who is not drinking. Unless it’s Heineken 0.0.

The hilarious commercial features Max attending various gatherings with friends, in the city, and being the one designated to drive them all back home because he didn’t drink alcohol at all. “Guess who’s driving?” they all say with a smile, while throwing the car keys on the table and waiting for him to grab them.

He does that multiple times and drives all kinds of cars, including cars that have the “Baby on board” and “Learner driver” signs, until one night, when he decides to enjoy a beer, too. When the usual question is raised, he refuses to be the driver, pretending to have drunk alcohol. However, as he gets behind the wheel of his sports car, it turns out he only had Heineken O.O.

“The best driver is the one who is not drinking. Unless it’s Heineken 0.0” an onscreen line reads at the end of the commercial, which also sees the tagline “When you drive never drink” appearing as well.

Serving as soundtrack is the 1965 single “Drive My Car” by The Beatles, from their sixth studio album, “Rubber Soul”.
