He Gets Us, a nonprofit organization that aims to spread Jesus’ message without aligning itself with any specific political agenda, has launched
a touching commercial that aired during Super Bowl LVIII.
The 60-second spot, imagined as a sequence of images showing people with opposing ideologies following the example of Jesus washing feet of the disciples, raises an interesting question: “How would our world change if people took off their shoes and washed each other’s feet?”.
“If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you”, Jesus instructs His followers (John 13:2 – 17).
On it’s webpage, the organization states: “Honestly, images of people washing each other’s feet look a little strange and disconcerting because it’s not part of our modern-day customs”.
All of the images in the spot were shot by the photographer Julia Fullerton-Batten.
The song playing in the commercial is a cover by “Never Tear Us Apart”, originally performed by Australian rock band INXS.
