Netflix has dropped the trailer for its upcoming movie Old Dads, which marks comedian Bill Burr’s directorial debut.
Described as a film about parenthood, friendship, and one man’s bad temper, Old Dads revolves around three best friends who become dads later in life and have a hard time navigating a changing world – and letting go of the ’80s.
Bill Burr takes on the role of Jack, a father facing challenges when it comes to fitting in at his son’s progressive preschool. The school’s principal is continuously pushing his buttons, and Jack struggles to keep his temper in check. This ultimately leads to an unfortunate incident during school pickup, where he openly insults the principal, played by Rachael Harris. This incident triggers an intervention.
Adding to Jack’s woes, he and his closest friends are grappling with the complexities of adjusting to a shifting workplace environment. This change stems from the sale of their company, which they had run for 23 years, to a millennial CEO portrayed by Miles Robbins. This new CEO has ambitious plans to transform the company into a “gender-neutral, carbon-neutral 21st-century lifestyle apparel brand,” creating further tension and challenges for Jack and his friends.
Jack’s recurring struggles with anger management push his relationship to its limits. Meanwhile, his friends are also contending with their own set of challenges: Connor (played by Bobby Cannavale) finds it difficult to let go of his youthful tendencies and makes excessive efforts to appear trendy, while Mike (portrayed by Bokeem Woodbine), the most composed of the trio, faces a personal crisis upon learning that his significantly younger girlfriend is expecting a child.
As Jack and his friends attempt to navigate the gap between generations and their roles in an evolving cultural landscape, they come to the realization that they may need to adapt to the changing times or, at the very least, find middle ground through compromise.
Old Dads is coming to Netflix later this fall, on October 20.
