Apple TV has released the trailer for its upcoming movie Flora and Son, from the musical mind of John Carney, which explores the bond between a mother and son on a journey toward a new harmony.
The musical revolves around single mom Flora (Eve Hewson), who lives in Dublin and is at a loss about what to do with her rebellious teenage son, Max (Orén Kinlan). Encouraged by the police to find Max a hobby, Flora tries to occupy him with a beat-up acoustic guitar. With the help of a washed-up LA musician (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who is Flora’s online guitar teacher, Flora and Max discover the transformative power of music.
The trailer gives viewers a glimpse at Flora’s life and how she discovers that one person’s rubble can be a family’s salvation.
Original music and songs for the film are by writer/director John Carney and Gary Clark, writer of 1980s hit “Mary’s Prayer.”
The song used in the trailer is “High Life,” an emotional yet optimistic track about a motherhood, performed by Hewson and her co-star Orén Kinlan.
“Flora and Son” got its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 22, 2023, is due to be screened at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival on September 7, and will afterwards have a one-week US-wide theatrical run from September 22.
