Amazon urges you to “Spend Less on your Kids” in its latest Back to School-themed commercial.
The e-commerce company has teamed up with Randall Park to promote its back to school deals. The star television dad from “Fresh Off The Boat” stars in a hilarious ad, from Caviar director Jody Hill, in which he proudly imparts the “novel idea” of simply spending less on kids. “As parents, we pay out the… for school. So here’s a novel idea: just spend less on your kids,” he says in the opening of the 30-second spot, while standing in front of a school. He explains that Amazon has great deals on everything kids needs and shows a father who, instead of spending more, spent less. Park urges viewers to spend less on their kids with Amazon’s Back to School deals and, when a girl passing by says that “it’s fiscally advantageous”, he admits, with a laugh, that he doesn’t even know what that means.
Eventually, Amazon’s tagline, “Spend less. Smile more.”, appears on the screen.
“Fortunately, Amazon has low prices on all the stuff kids need. So, we’re breaking through the category clutter with Randall Park’s comically honest parental perspective, and giving parents everywhere permission to do something that sounds kind of wrong… spending less on their children,” Jo Shoesmith, Amazon XCM executive world wide creative director, said in a press release.
Park is not the only celebrity spokes-parent for Amazon. Last year, actress actress Kathryn Hahn was enlisted to bring a comically honest and relatable perspective to the increasingly costly Back-to-School shopping season.
