Gatorade shows us “The Way to be Great” in its latest commercial.
“You want to be like the the greats? First believe you are. Greatness requires drip. The greats aren’t afraid to fail, trophies require greatness but greatness doesn’t require trophies. Because greatness isn’t about what you’ve done, it’s about what you do next,” the voiceover says in the 30-second ad, which includes old commercial footage of Michael Jordan and other spots legends in their prime, as well as footage of contemporary athletes. Among them there are Serena Williams, Lionel Messi, Jayson Tatum, Elena Delle Donne, Sydney McLaughlin and more.
At the end of the commercial, which features Eminem’s 2010 track “Won’t Back Down”, the tagline “G fuels greatness. G fuels you” appears on the screen.
“We know our brand has everything athletes need to fuel Greatness. “We have fueled the greatest athletes of all time over the last 60 years, and ‘The Way to Be Great’ is an anthemic campaign meant to bring to life what greatness has been, and what greatness looks like in the future,” Anuj Bhasin, chief brand officer at Gatorade, said in a press release.
The ad debuted on June 9 during Game 4 of the NBA Finals and is set to run during the league’s draft, as well as in WNBA games and during College Baseball World Series coverage.
