Lionsgate has released the trailer for the movie Dumb Money, based on the book “The Antisocial Network” by Ben Mezrich and directed by Craig Gillespie.
Described as “the ultimate David vs. Goliath tale”, the movie is based on the insane true story of everyday people who flipped the script on Wall Street and got rich by turning the mall videogame store GameStop into the world’s hottest company. In the middle of everything is regular guy Keith Gill (Paul Dano), who starts it all by sinking his life savings into the stock and posting about it. When his social posts start blowing up, so does his life and the lives of everyone following him. As a stock tip becomes a movement, everyone gets rich – until the billionaires fight back, and both sides find their worlds turned upside down.
The cast ensemble includes Shailene Woodley as Keith’s wife, Pete Davidson as his brother, Vincent D’Onofrio, America Ferrera, Nick Offerman, Anthony Ramos, Sebastian Stan, and Seth Rogen.
The trailer gives viewers a glimpse at the story, which sees Dano’s character putting all his savings into GameStop stock, posting about it on Reddit and starting, thus, a movement for buying stock in the video game retailer. “A lot of people feel the system is broken. The whole idea of the stock market is if you’re smart, and maybe with a little luck, you can make your fortune. Certainly not anymore. There is no hope for the little guy. Maybe now there is,” he says in one of the scenes, at the end of the trailer.
The song used in the trailer is the 2022 single “Us vs. Them” by longtime Atlanta duo Quavo & Takeoff, featuring fellow Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane.
Dumb Money will open in theaters on September 22.
