The trailer for the upcoming movie Challengers, starring Zendaya, has been released.
Directed by Luca Guadagnino, the romantic sports comedy-drama revolves around a Grand Slam tennis champion who signs up to compete in a challenger event against the former lover of his wife and coach.
The cast also includes Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist in the leading roles, with O’Connor playing Patrick and Faist playing Art Donaldson, Zendaya’s husband. Zendaya portrays Tashi Donaldson, a tennis player turned coach, who has transformed her husband from a mediocre player into a world-famous Grand Slam champion.
According to the official synopsis, she makes Art play a challenger event, close to the lowest level of tournament on the pro tour, but tensions soon run high when he finds himself standing across the net from the once-promising, now burnt-out Patrick, his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend.
Set to Rihanna’s “S&M,” the trailer gives viewers a glimpse at the action, with Zendaya impressing once again with her acting skills. She is shown at the top of her tennis career, which ends abruptly, though, following an injury. Tashi forms a love triangle with best friends Art and Patrick and, years later, marries Art. Their live takes an unexpected turn when Art and Patrick must face off in a challenger event, with Tashi coaching Art.
Challengers will be available in theaters this fall, on September 15.
