American Express has teamed up with Issa Rae for a new campaign.
The actress/producer stars in a commercial that shows her choosing a restaurant where she could spend the evening writing a script. She chooses a French restaurant and lets inspiration flow. As she puts her ideas “on paper”, about a handsome man who waits at a corner table for his date to arrive, she adds another scene, about a couple fighting at a nearby table, with the woman throwing her drink in her partner’s face and rushing out.
Just when she’s about to write what the protagonist was going to tell his girlfriend, dressed in red, Issa is interrupted by a waitress, who asks her if she’s all set. “It’s perfect,” Issa replies.
The commercial ends with the onscreen line “When you find the perfect place to get inspired, you’re with Amex”.
This is not the first time Rae collaborated with American Express. Last year, she headlined American Express’ tenth Business Class LIVE conference, an event that aims to inspire and support small business owners and leaders from all industries with strong connections and expert insight. The conference was held on July 20 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City and was streamed online for free.
The multi-hyphenate star also served as a festival ambassador for the 2022 American Black Film Festival, which took place in Miami Beach, from June 15 through June 9.
