“Even when things are not going your way – from stepping in gum, getting a flat tire, or realizing you’re late on a car insurance payment – The General is always there to give you a break when you need it most,” this is the idea behind the latest commercial released by The General, starring Shaquille O’Neal.
The spot features Brian, a car owner who experiences all kinds of mishaps. First, he steps in gum when getting out of the car, then he gets flat tires, and a light pole falls on his car. “That’s some bad luck, Brian,” says Shaq, who’s standing near the insurance company’s mascot, The General. The latter points out that The General gives you a break when you need it. Shaq adds that the company also offers flexible payment options to keep you covered.
“So today is your lucky day,” he also tells Brian, who sees his windshield destroyed by a light pole he had barely touched and fell.
The commercial ends with a man shouting “Meteor” and with Brian saying, once again, “Dang it”.
“For a great low rate, go with The General,” the voiceover says.
O’Neal has appeared in multiple other commercials for the insurance company. In one of them, he sits at the table, in a restaurant, with Michael Buffer, and in another one, he is found in the woods by Craig Robinson and some other fellows who – it turns out – have left them there a long time before for having recommended The General for car insurance. In one of the spots he shares the screen with none other than his mother, Lucille O’Neal.
The NFL legend has also worked with other brands in the past. Among them are Gold Bond, Buick, AriZona Cream Soda, and Icy Hot.
