Swiss watchmaker like TAG Heuer celebrates the 60th anniversary of its iconic motoring-inspired Carrera model with a hilarious new commercial starring Ryan Gosling.
The spot, which is actually a five-minute action-packed film, produced by Deadpool 2 and Bullet Train director David Leitch’s 87 North banner and directed by Nash Edgerton, features the Hollywood superstar, who is also a TAG Heuer ambassador, on a movie set, playing himself and stealing the new Tag Heuer Carrera Glassbox, that belongs to the props master, named Tammy (played by Saturday Night Live regular Vanessa Bayer). The latter, who wants her watch back at any costs, embarks on a chase and pulls out all the stops to get her hands back on the precious timepiece.
The video features several songs, including “Amsterdam Chase” by Dmitri Golovko and Billy Ocean’s “Red Light Spells Danger”, and is loaded with Carrera timepieces, car chases, rushes of adrenaline, and dollops of humor.
The film ends with Gosling praising his co-star, Vanessa, for her work on the commercial that they filmed until the real prop master, Wayne, shows up. “Let me guess, you want the watch,” Gosling says, which makes Wayne declare, using a very serious voice, that he’s gonna need that watch. The Barbie actor takes the opportunity to start running again, but Wayne does the same.
The final scene ends with the words “The race never stops”.
In last year’s Netflix spy thriller The Grey Man, Gosling wore the a Tag Heuer Carrera Three Hands and in The Fall Guy he will be seen wearing the new Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph.
