Progressive has released a new commercial to promote its motorcycle insurance.
The spot opens with Flo asking Mara if she is sure she doesn’t want to go bowling later that day, with her and the rest of the crew. Looking at her phone, Mara answers she is sure. At this point, her parents shows up in the parking lot, all cheerful and chatty. “There’s my little marzipan!” her dad exclaims, giving her a hug. He says, on this occasion, that his daughter gives the best hugs, even though she doesn’t bother to hug him at all, obviously annoyed by his embrace.
Her mother explains that they are just passing through on their way to the Jazz Jamboree and they wanted to thank America’s #1 motorcycle insurer for saving them money. Flo can’t help laughing and tell her coworker “Mara, your parents are… “. “Exactly like me? I know, right?” answers Mara, whose eyes are still glued to the screen of her phone.
The commercial ends with Mara’s father urging the rest of the crew to cherish their friends and loved ones while taking Mara away with him, on his motorcycle. As they’re watching Mara and her parents hit the road, Flo and her colleagues are speechless for a few moments. Then Jamie shares his thoughts. “I was not expecting her mom to be that tall,” he says.
Progressive enlisted Natalie Palamides as Mara in 2020, three years after tapping actor Jim Cashman as Jamie.
The insurance company has also teamed up with Paul Mabon to play Alan, Christine Tawfik to play Lucy, and Brian Stepanek to play Bob.
Progressive is also known for its ad campaigns featuring Dr Rick, the Parenta-Life Coach, who helps new homeowners to not turn into their parents, and the Motaur (played by Terrence Terrell).
