Cartier has released a new commercial for its new Tank Française range of watches, starring Rami Malek and Catherine Deneuve.
The spot, directed by Guy Ritchie, traces the 18,261 steps Malek and Deneuve walked on the Alexandre III bridge in Paris, each beginning on a different side of the bridge before they cross paths. Described as “a tribute to cinema and to the idea of creative freedom upheld by Cartier”, the film shows Malek as a photographer and director, whose muse is a blonde woman. Eventually, as he walks away, he notices the French legend of cinema and style in the back seat of a black car, wearing the new Cartier Tank Française and greets her with a smile. She looks at him, as well, but only for a second, then keeps looking ahead.
The commercial ends with the onscreen line “Tank Since 1917. Française Depuis 1996.”
The soundtrack music is “Lilies of The Valley” by Jun Miyake.
Originally launched in 1996, the Tank Française timepiece by Cartier was a diversion from its classical Tank watch. Now the new Cartier Tank Francaise bracelet versions boast subtle changes: the brancards (a French word for stretcher) – or case sides that frame the dial and reach up to the bracelet – are more rounded, a faceted crown that is set further into the case side than in previous versions, and satin finishes on the case and bracelet.
The dials are a sunray pattern in hues matching the supple bracelet and feature Roman numerals. Some versions are set with diamonds on the brancards, as well. There are three different sizes being offered in stainless steel and in 18-karat gold.
