Universal Pictures has released a second trailer for its upcoming thriller M3GAN, which comes from the most prolific minds in horror – James Wan (the filmmaker behind the Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring franchises) and Blumhouse.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Gerard Johnstone from a screenplay by Akela Cooper based on a story by Akela Cooper and James Wan, the movie revolves around M3GAN, a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally. According to the official synopsis, this marvel of artificial intelligence, designed by brilliant toy-company roboticist Gemma, can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is bonded to. “When Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady, Gemma’s unsure and unprepared to be a parent. Under intense pressure at work, Gemma decides to pair her M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to resolve both problems – a decision that will have unimaginable consequences,” the synopsis also reads.
The cast ensemble includes Allison Williams as Gemma, Violet McGraw as Cady, Ronny Chieng, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Lori Dungey and Stephane Garneau-Monten.
The trailer shows how M3GAN takes her “job” very seriously and doesn’t allow anyone to harm Cady physically or emotionally. One accident, which ends tragically for a boy who upsets Cady in the woods, leads to a series of murders, all committed by the life-like doll.
The song used in this trailer is “Dolls” by Bella Porch. The song used in the first trailer is Taylow Swift’s single “It’s Nice to Have a Friend”.
M3GAN will be released in theaters next month, on January 6, 2023.
