Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for its movie The Fabelmans, described by RollingStone as “One of the most impressive, enlightening, and vital movies Spielberg has ever made”.
Written by Spielberg and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner, the film is set in post-World War II era Arizona and stars Gabriel LaBelle as 16-year-old aspiring filmmaker Sammy Fabelman who discovers a shattering family secret and explores how the power of films can help him see the truth. Four-time Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams plays his artistic mother, Mitzi, Paul Dano his successful, scientific father, Burt, Seth Rogen Bennie Loewy, Burt’s best friend and honorary “uncle” to the Fabelman children, and Academy Award nominee Judd Hirsch plays Mitzi’s Uncle Boris.
The cast also includes Oscar nominee Jeannie Berlin as Sammy’s paternal grandmother, Hadassah Fabelman, Julia Butters as Sammy’s sister, Reggie, Robin Bartlett as Sammy’s maternal grandmother Tina Schildkraut and Keeley Karsten as Sammy’s sister Natalie.
The trailer gives viewers a glimpse at the lives of The Fabelmans and the challenges they must deal with, while in the background the song “Golden Slumber” by Ben Folds plays.
The Fabelmans, which received 5 Golden Globe nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director, is now playing in theaters and at home.
