Subway wishes people a “Merry Cookiemas” in its holiday ad campaign, created in partnership with Publicis, which has been teased, prior to its official release, with the question “What does the Easter Bunny do at Christmas time?”.
The animated spot opens with Santa packing a batch of Subway cookies in a festive tin box as part of the preparations for his annual rounds delivering presents. Juxtaposed footage shows the Easter Bunny in his home, having a single carrot for dinner. Santa is then shown embarking on a journey, without his beloved reindeer, to the bunny’s house, and leaving a plate of cookies, along with the note “Merry Cookiemas”, to his front door. Surprised and deeply impressed by this unexpected gift, the Easter Bunny gets back inside to enjoy the sweet treat.
The commercial, set to the tune of an emotional song, ends with the wish “Merry Cookiemas” appearing on the screen, alongside a line informing that Subway is supporting the charity Friends for Good to make Christmas a little less lonely.
“At Christmas, this year more than ever, we think a small gesture can make a big difference. We are so excited to be sharing our new Merry Cookiemas story alongside Friends for Good to help make Christmas a little more delicious, and a little less lonely, this year,” said Subway ANZ Head of Marketing, Rodica Titetica, in a press release.
