Universal Pictures has released the official trailer for Cocaine Bear, a thriller inspired by the 1985 true story of a drug runner’s plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it.
Directed by Elizabeth Banks (Charlie’s Angels, Pitch Perfect 2) from a screenplay by Jimmy Warden, the movie finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens converging in a Georgia forest where a 500-pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow … and blood,” according to the official synopsis.
The cast ensemble includes Emmy winner Margo Martindale, Emmy winner Ray Liotta, Keri Russell, O’Shea Jackson, Jr., Christian Convery-Jennings, Alden Ehrenreich, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Brooklynn Prince, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Kristofer Hivju, Hannah Hoekstra, and Aaron Holliday.
The trailer, scored by the song “White Lines” by Grandmaster Flash (whose lyrics include “Get higher, baby, and don’t ever come down”), shows some of the characters encountering the wild animal which, after ingesting a huge amount of cocaine, becomes even wilder. They are trying to escape but some of them end up in the bear’s claws.
Cocaine Bear is set to hit cinemas 23 February.
