Volvo promotes its Recharge plug-in hybrids in a new commercial, introducing these vehicles as “electric cars with a backup plan”.
Titled “The Chase,” the 60-second spot follows a dad on a day in the life from the moment he wakes up until the moment he gets back home in the evening and puts his daughter to sleep. However, his day is full of all kinds of quite stressful situations for him related to charging because his daughter accidentally grabs his phone charger in the morning, when she’s going to school. Thus, when he needs to pay for some groceries with his phone, he sees the device turning off. At work, he needs to rush to a socket and plug in his laptop because its battery runs out during a video conference. Luckily, he doesn’t need to worry about charging his car, too, because he didn’t opt for an all-electric car, but for a Recharge plug-in, which lets him go electric most of the time and hybrid when
he needs it.
The commercial, set to the tune to Nina Simone’s song “Sinnerman”, ends with the tagline “Electric cars with a back-up plan. Volvo Recharge plug-in hybrids”.
The automaker’s Recharge Plug-in Hybrids offer a combination of plug-in battery electric power and an efficient gasoline engine that provides low to zero tailpipe emissions, excellent flexibility and a powerful driving experience.
All Volvo Plug-in hybrids come standard with a charging cable that ensures a lot of flexibility and an 8 year/100,000 miles warranty on hybrid battery and hybrid system components.
