Aflac has teamed up with Lil Rel Howery and Wanda Sykes for its newest ad campaign, “The Aflac Pre-Pain Show,” which celebrates the brand’s status as an Official Partner of the NCAA and March Madness Tournament.
The two comedians co-star as hosts of the “Aflac Pre-Pain Show”, showing fans the gap between what health insurance covers and where medical bills begin to pile up. In one of the spots, they watch Mark, a man who is about to become a living piñata at a backyard party. Wanda points out that, luckily, Aflac will help cover his unexpected medical bills. When the famous Aflac duck gets closer to Mark, sitting on the baseball bat used to hit the piñata, Howery says he doesn’t think he has any candy in there. At this point, Mark, who is obviously in an uncomfortable position, asks if he is at least going to get hit hard enough to forget this episode. Wanda answers that nobody’s gonna forget this ever and, after witnessing the hurtful moment, decides to call his mom.
The “Aflac Pre-Pain Show” campaign also includes a series of public service announcements called “That’s Rel Talk,” in which Lil Rel Howery helps raise awareness of Colon Cancer, a deadly disease affecting over 100,000 Americans annually, making it the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S.
The campaign runs across television, social media, digital channels and through engaging on-site activations at a variety of March Madness games. “House of the Unexpected,” an on-site activation, opens during the Final Four Fan Fest in New Orleans from March 31 to April 4.
