Lionsgate has released the official red band trailer for its upcoming action-comedy “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent”, starring Nicolas Cage as Nick Cage.
Directed by Tom Gormican from a script he co-wrote with Kevin Etten, the movie follows the fictionalized version of Cage who, being “creatively unfulfilled and facing financial ruin,” must accept a $1 million offer to attend the birthday party of a dangerous superfan named Javi (played by Pedro Pascal). According to the official synopsis, “things take a wildly unexpected turn when Cage is recruited by a CIA operative (Tiffany Haddish) and forced to live up to his own legend, channeling his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters in order to save himself and his loved ones.” “With a career built for this very moment, the seminal award-winning actor must take on the role of a lifetime: Nicolas Cage.” the synopsis also reads.
The cast also includes Sharon Horgan, Ike Barinholtz, Alessandra Mastronardi, Jacob Scipio, Lily Sheen, and Neil Patrick Harris.
The trailer gives viewers a glimpse at the movie action, with Cage befriending Pascal’s character, a drug kingpin, to whom he tells at some point that he loves him. The crime boss invites him to his mansion, where they spend a lot of time together. Cage is impressed by the real-life size wax statue the fan has in his home.
The songs used in the trailer are the 1967 single Happy Together by The Turtles and the 2019 single “Kill This Love” by South Korean girl group Blackpink.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is scheduled to premiere March 12 at the SXSW Festival in Austin and on April 22 in theaters.
