Netflix has released the trailer for the third season of Ricky Gervais’ series After Life.
The show, which won Best Comedy at the National Television Awards last year, stars Gervais as Tony, a local journalist who struggles to cope with his grief in the wake of his wife’s death and find a new lease on life.
The trailer shows Tony going on a trip to scatter his dad’s ashes, while in the background he is heard sharing some of the things he came to realize. “I thought not caring was a superpower. I was wrong. Caring about stuff, that’s what really matters. Kindness, making other people feel good,” he says.
The trailer also includes footage of Tony’s wife, Lisa (played by Kerry Godliman), who recorded videotapes to guide Tony through life ahead of her death, shots of Tony and his beloved German Shepherd, Brandy, and a discussion in which he is told that “there are angels, but don’t have wings in live in clouds; they wear nurses’ uniforms and work hard to pay the rent on their houses”.
The song used in the trailer is the 2019 single Gameshow by Jerry Williams. The track, included on the singer’s album of the same name, is available for purchase on Amazon for $1.29.
Season 3 of After Life will launch on Netflix this month, on January 14.
