HBO Max has released the trailer for its upcoming miniseries The Girl Before, based on the worldwide best-selling novel by author JP Delaney.
Directed by Emmy nominee Lisa Brühlman, the miniseries stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Jane Cavendish, a young woman who finds an ultra-minimalist and incredibly modern house, but in order to rent it she has to accept a list of strange demands from its architect owner, Edward (played by David Oyelowo).
She learns that the house has an impressive A.I. software – a “housekeeping system” – that collects data from whoever is living in it to improve everyday life, allegedly. She also discovers that she bears a strange connection to former inhabitants of the house, and figures out that connection might put her life in danger.
The cast also includes Jessica Plummer, Ben Hardy, Rakhee Thakrar, Amanda Drew, and Ian Conningham.
The trailer gives viewers a glimpse at the plot, with Jane moving in the smart house and believing that she and the house are a good match for each other. However, she soon discovers that the girl who lived there before (named Emma) looked just like her and died in the house, so she begins to question if her fate will be the same as her’s.
Serving as soundtrack is a dramatic song, whose lyrics include “Somebody else is taking my place. For somebody’s taken my place”.
The Girl Before is streaming February 10 on HBO Max.
