Spotify has launched its “Spotify Wrapped” series of ads, highlighting what the world streamed the most in 2021.
One of the videos informs that more than 7600 people listened to Doja Cat and the Extraterrestrial podcast this year, while a guy sitting on the couch, ready to take a bite from a slice of pizza, is shown being abducted by aliens, under the eyes of his little dog.
“Totally normal for 2021” an onscreen line reads at the end of the 15-second spot, which is set to the tune of Doja Cat’s single “Get Into It (Yuh)”.
The streaming service launched the 2021 Wrapped, unveiling the top artists, albums, songs, podcasts, and more that defined how more than 381 million people around the world listened and discovered audio this year.
Bad Bunny takes, for the second year in a row, the title of most-streamed artist in the world on Spotify. The Puerto Rican Reggaeton star has received over 9.1 billion streams without releasing a new album this year. The top three also includes singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, with “Red (Taylor’s Version)”, and South Korean K-pop boy band BTS, with their hit single “Butter”. Canadian artists Drake and Justin Bieber take spots four and five, respectively.
The top song of 2021 globally is Olivia Rodrigo’s runaway “drivers license,” which garnered over 1.1 billion streams. The second place belongs to Lil Nas X’s viral “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” and the third place to Kid LAROI, with his Justin Bieber collaboration, “STAY”.
The top five podcasts globally includes The Joe Rogan Experience, which remains the number-one podcast on the streaming service, Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy, Crime Junkie, TED Talks Daily, and The Daily.
