Tesco encourages people to set aside life’s troubles and celebrate this Christmas no matter what the world throws.
The spot, created by BBH and titled “This Christmas, Nothing’s Stopping Us”, opens with a grandmother who’s determined to get to her grandchildren’s home for the holidays, no matter what. Set to the tune of Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now,” the video shows a diverse cast of people enjoying a proper Christmas with family and friends (given the fact that, last year, the lockdown restrictions prevented gatherings) with Tesco’s range of festive food on the table.
The spot also features Santa showing his COVID pass at border control in order to be able to enter the country. This detail made thousands of people complain about it. There currently are more than 1,500 complaints over this scene, of which is it said to be “coercive” and encouraging medical discrimination.
Christine Turner and Kevin Masters of BBH commented: “After the last one, this Christmas had to be a cracker, so our campaign is a rallying cry to show we’re made of harder stuff this year, and nothing’s stopping us. And who better to show this than our scooting gran weaving her way through a joyfully defiant nation as they tackle anything thrown at them”.
