DICK’S Sporting Goods has brought back some of its old holiday-themed commercials, to remind consumers about the importance of giving a gift that matters.
One of the ads tells the story of a girl who receives a basketball hoop as a Christmas gift from her dad and shows how this gift shapes her as an athlete. Set up in front of her house, the hoop becomes the center piece of numerous days and nights in her life. She grows up playing basketball with her father, her friends and her boyfriend and, when she leaves home for college, the hoop is still there.
“Give a gift that matters” an onscreen line reads at the end of the commercial, which is scored by the 2015 single “American Beauty” by American band Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors, from their seventh studio album, “Medicine”. The track can be bought on Amazon for $0.99.
The basketball hoop showcased in the ad is a Lifetime in-ground and portable basketball hoop. Other ads launched by the retailer feature an indoor tennis table and two siblings using it from childhood to adulthood, and a couple of grandparents who miss the times their grandchildren came over and played sports in the backyard.
