Shopping for the big game can bring up a fresh set of challenges for young homeowners, but Dr. Rick can help them from not becoming their parents.
The spot, titled “Gameday Shopping,” features Parenta-Life coach accompanying a man to a grocery store, where he has to buy some products for the gameday. “Shopping for the gameday can be a minefield for young homeowners who have turned into their parents,” Dr. Rick says in the opening of the 50-second ad, which sees the man behaving like his father in the store. first, he exclaims that someone is not doing their job when he sees a shopping cart in front of the store, then he is surprised to see how many different types of water are in an aisle, changes blades, gives feedback to the manager about the employee in produce, and wants to get a variety pack. Dr. Rick, who’s by his side, reminds him that it’s a football game, not a play date.
“Progressive can’t protect you from becoming your parents, but we can protect your home and auto when you bundle with us,” the voiceover says at the end of the commercial.
In previous commercials, Dr. Rick helped young homeowners deal with the very real struggle of not turning into their parents using other methods. One of them consisted in asking them to answer a series of “very real and pressing questions,” like “How many pillows are too many?” “When does helping become hindering?” “Who reads books about Submarines?” and another one consisted in a group outing at a store called House World.
This new campaign can be considered a continuation of the “Parentamorphosis” campaign, which was created by Arnold Worldwide in 2016 and became Progressive’s most successful effort without spokeswoman Flo.
