An official teaser trailer for the upcoming film Spencer, about Princess Diana and the one weekend when she decided to leave her marriage to Prince Charles during Christmas 1991, has been released.
Written by Steven Knight and directed by Pablo Larrain, the movie is described as an imagining of what might have happened during those few fateful days, during the Christmas festivities at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate.
“The Prince and Princess of Wales’ marriage has long since grown cold. Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at Sandringham Estate. There’s eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. This year, things will be a whole lot different,” the official synopsis reads.
The film, which stars Kristen Stewart as Lady Di, Timothy Spall, Jack Farthing, Sean Harris, Sally Hawkins, features an original score by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, known for “Phantom Thread”.
The trailer sees Lady Di drifting through the vast palace corridors at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate and, when one of her aides say “They know everything”, responding “They don’t.” The soundtrack music is “Perfect Day” by Scala & Kolacny Brothers.
Spencer (this was Lady Diana’s maiden name before she wed the British royal) will be released in theaters this awards season on November 5.
