Hulu has released the teaser for its upcoming series Dopesick, which examines how one company triggered the worst drug epidemic in American history.
From Executive Producer Danny Strong and starring and executive produced by Michael Keaton, the show is adaptation of Beth Macy’s 2018 book and takes viewers to the epicenter of America’s struggle with opioid addiction, from the boardrooms of Big Pharma, to a distressed Virginia mining community, to the hallways of the DEA. According to the official synopsis, ‘Defying all the odds, heroes will emerge in an intense and thrilling ride to take down the craven corporate forces behind this national crisis and their allies”.
Keaton plays Dr. Samuel Finnix, a doctor who’s suspicious of a new miracle drug being pushed on him by Billy (Will Poulter), a young pharmaceutical rep. The cast also includes Rosario Dawson as a police officer named Bridget Meyer who witnesses the drug’s effect on communities first-hand, Michael Stuhlbarg as Richard Sackler, a businessman and the drug’s biggest backer, Kaitlyn Dever as Betsy, a young coal miner who gets prescribed opioids for a back condition and forms a devastating addiction, John Hoogenakker, Phillipa Soo, and Jake McDorman.
Dopesick arrives on October 13, only on Hulu.
