A24 has released the trailer for its upcoming movie Lamb, which marks the feature directorial debut of Valdimar Jóhannsson.
The movie stars Noomi Rapace and Hilmir Snaer Gudnason as María and Ingvar, a childless couple living with their herd of sheep in rural Iceland, who make, one day, an alarming discovery in their sheep barn. According to the official synopsis, which describes the film as a “dark and atmospheric folktale”, the two “soon face the consequences of defying the will of nature”.
The trailer gives viewers a glimpse at the events, without revealing too much, though. It seems that Rapace’s character begins treating the mysterious newborn lamb they find on their farmland as if it were her child. At some point, her husband points out that “it’s an animal,| not a child. Bloody scenes are also included, while in the background the song “God Only Knows” by American rock band the Beach Boys, from their 1966 album, “Pet Sounds,” plays.
Lamb, which made its world premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, will be released in theaters this fall, on October 8.
