Hulu has released a new trailer for the fourth season of its hit dystopian drama The Handmaid’s Tale, starring Elisabeth Moss.
The series, adapted from Margaret Atwood’s classic novel, is set in Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. “Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarized “return to traditional values”. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Elisabeth Moss’s character is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world. In this terrifying society, she must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her”.
Season 3 ended with Elisabeth Moss’ character getting wounded and bleeding copiously while successfully staging an airlift of children out of Gilead.
Season 4 will see her back on the run, judging by the trailer, which features her not wearing her red robes. The official synopsis for this upcoming season reads: “The cultural phenomenon picks up where we left off, with June’s fight for freedom against Gilead. But the risks she takes bring unexpected and dangerous new challenges, and her desire for justice and revenge threaten to consume her and destroy her most cherished relationships”.
“You are tuned to Radio Free America, number one source for news of the Resistance,” a radio host says in the opening of the video, which sees June in a trunk. There are also shots of Commander Lawrence, the Waterfords, Nick and Aunt Lydia… who commands someone to “Find her, and bring her to me”.
Serving as soundtrack is “You Should See Me In A Crown” by Billie Eilish.
The cast will also includes Mckenna Grace as Mrs. Keyes, the teenage wife of a much older Commander. Season 4 will launch on April 28.
