Chanel has released the campaign film for its new No.5 fragrance, starring Marion Cotillard and French ballet dancer Jérémie Bélingard.
Directed by Johan Renck, the spot opens with the award-winning French actress, clad in a gold embroidered lace dress, walking across a bridge and watching the moon. The film, which “marries” the real with the imaginary, then continues with Cotillard and Bélingard dancing on the Moon. It is “an energetic, joyful choreography that celebrates the joie de vivre of a woman who joins forces with her partner to lead the dance,” the House declared, revealing that the inspiration for this new campaign is a strong woman in love, whose seductiveness unfolds into joy.
The soundtrack music is Lorde’s single Team, recorded by Flavien Berger and covered by Marion Cotillard.
Marion Cotillard’s partnership with CHANEL marks the first time that the French actress lends her image to a fragrance. She has thus joined the likes of Catherine Deneuve, Carole Bouquet, Nicole Kidman, Gisele Bündchen, and more.
“I’ve always been fascinated by the House of CHANEL. It is something I’ve always dreamed about. It is hard to describe a dream that comes true. The House has a gift for wonderment and thus a gift for filling us with wonder and awe.” Marion Cotillard said in a statement.
The dress she weared in the commercial was inspired by the timeless style of a dress designed and worn by Gabrielle Chanel and reinterpreted by Virginie Viard.
The legendary fragrance, composed around May Rose and Jasmine, also has bright citrus top notes, Aldehydes, and Vanilla, and comes in the iconic bottle with a minimalist design, which makes it easy to spray.
